Hey Siri? Play Purple Rain. Elsewhere’s new brew comes from the village of Xiding in the Chinese coffee region of Yunnan.  This lot gets its name from the ‘purple-leaf’ Caturra variety, which has a striking purple hue to both its leaves and ripe cherries.

This area near the Myanmar border is rich with agricultural tradition and famed for its tea industry, but we’re here for the coffee. At Xiding Washing Station in Menghai County, ripe cherries are floated in mountain spring water before being washed and depulped. This lot has undergone a double fermentation: the first is 24 hours of dry anaerobic fermentation in sealed bags followed by repeated rinsing to remove mucilage. The second fermentation begins with a dry ferment in the day and finishes with a nighttime wet fermentation that helps to enhance this coffee’s bright acidity and super clean flavour profile.

Complex rooibos tea, sweet and fragrant apple blossom and sour ume make for a really interesting palate that we’re really looking forward to trying on filter.
