Martha and Ana Maria Albir, Nicaragua - Crankhouse Coffee
Sisters Martha and Ana Maria Albir are standard bearers of specialty coffee in Nicaragua, with a commitment to social responsibility, sustainability and quality. All of the Albir’s coffee is processed at the family’s Cafetos de Segovia mill, where the water used in the processing of washed coffees like this one is recycled. The mill has also become a real hub for local smallholder farmers who are offered good prices and access to the specialty coffee market.
Their farm Finca Bethania benefits from a unique microclimate in the highlands of Nueva Segovia, where the family actively conserves the surrounding forestry to maintain biodiversity. This lot, roasted by Crankhouse, is 100% Maracaturra, a high yielding and high quality hybrid variety whose dense foliage provides shade and wind protection. This exceptional coffee is the perfect mix of standout and crowdpleasing, offering bright pineapple flavour but a delicate light caramel body that works brilliantly with filter brewing methods.
We love Crankhouse’s offering of lesser-seen origins and varietals and their beautifully illustrated fully recyclable bags don’t hurt either. Check out our latest drop's here.
Exeter based Crankhouse Coffee launched in 2014, growing from a single car garage to a roastery in the heart of Exeter where quality is key. Today, they are dedicated to a sustainable future of coffee, and contribute to organisations that drive science-based change in the industry such as the Specialty Coffee Association, World Coffee Research, Alliance for Coffee Excellence and One Percent for the Planet.
