Margarissa Chelbessa, Ethiopia - Round Hill Roastery
Chelbesa Washing station in Gedeb was established by Ethiopian coffee exporters SNAP and now works with around 650 smallholder farmers around the village who grow tiny plots in semi-forest conditions at altitudes up to 2100 MASL.
All contributing farms are located within a 40 minute walk of the station - in the area often referred to as Yirgacheffe in the coffee world.
The farmers wait for all the cherries on the plant to be bright red and sweet before picking and delivering to Chelbesa, where they process exclusively natural coffees. The name ‘Margarissa’ given to this lot refers to a shade of green in the local Oromiffa language and refers to the sweet berry and citrus character found in this exceptional coffee roasted by Round Hill.
Somerset has a thriving speciality coffee scene and Round Hill Roastery, based just outside Bath, are a key player. This coffee roaster focuses on single farm and single estate coffee allows them to create strong relationships direct with suppliers and bring truly unique coffee and complete transparency to their customers.
Round Hill roast their coffee specifically for either filter or espresso so they can bring out the best in their beans and their bright bags make things simple: blue for filter, pink for espresso.
