El Chollo, Honduras - Odd Kin Coffee Roasters
Honduran coffee farm Finca El Chollo is nestled in the Cordillera de Montecillos, where Carlos Meija is continuing his family legacy producing coffee that has both exceptional heritage and quality. Carlos, aka Chollo, was raised amongst coffee plants and now farms around 16 hectares of his own, co-planted with citrus trees.
Carlos also manages CONEXH, a producer owned coffee company who run a washing station in La Paz and manages ten local farms while also working with surrounding smallholders.
The mill uses traditional processing methods under the watchful eye of Carlos’s father Mario and honey processed coffees like this one are firm favourites. The cherries are depulped then left to ferment with the mucilage on the seed, bringing out natural sweetness and flavours of apricot, vanilla and crème caramel that are giving us major Petit Filous vibes. This one from Odd Kin Coffee Roasters makes for a super fruity filter or a deliciously silky espresso.
Odd Kin Coffee Roasters is the brainchild of former Rugby pro Sam Smith who wanted a fulfilling life after retiring through injury and found that in coffee. We’re glad he did, because Odd Kin are creating some exciting stuff down in Bristol and they’re still only 2!
After opening a coffee shop and with the brief interruption of the pandemic, they decided to begin roasting their own coffee beans and Odd Kin was born. The team at Odd Kin source their coffees seasonally from green importers and only ever buy speciality coffees graded above 83 points, so you know you’ll always be getting the best coffee of the moment from these top tier roasters.
