Doña, Colombia - Coborn Coffee

Coborn’s latest Colombian coffee is super complex, with an earl grey tea-like flavour and creme brulee sweetness that provides some real silky body in the final cup. This washed lot comes from Doña Luisa Camacho, who farms alongside her family in Alto Mateo, Huila. Each member of the family cultivates their own individual lots independently, all with a different focus. Luisa concentrates on the Caturra and Colombia varieties, hoping to one day create a naturally occurring hybrid!

Like many farming communities in rural South America, the Camacho family operate as a ‘minga’- a traditional way of working that involves collective action for the common good. Instead of hiring seasonal workers from outside of the village, the family comes together at the busy harvest time, collecting and processing each others coffee and strengthening their bond as they do so.

London based micro-roastery Coborn Coffee have a loyal following of supporters who have the same respect for both their high quality coffee and responsible sourcing and roasting. Justin and Kenny founded Coborn with the aim of making unique and great tasting coffees affordable to their local communities. In the two years since their inception, they’ve managed all of this while sourcing only from female majority owned farms and co-ops in developing economies.

We got chatting to these guys at London Coffee Festival and couldn’t get enough of their fun-filled brews or ambitious ideas for the coffee industry so we’re thrilled to have them on drop.
