Nou Secco - Piwi Kollektiv
This refreshing blend of Johanniter, Sauvignac and Cabernet Blanc from vineyards across South West Germany makes for a deliciously dry (or trocken) sparkling wine.
Seccos are German semi-sparkling wines that get their light bubbles from added carbon dioxide after the first fermentation rather than undergoing a secondary fermentation. In this bottle, we get juicy pear, apple and peach meeting smooth salted caramel.
Piwi Kollektiv operate on a co-operative model that pools wines from Black Forest grape growers while helping them to convert their vineyards to sustainable, biodiverse sites. The spirit of this project is perfectly reflected in this joyous organic Secco.
Baden-Württemberg based Piwi Kollektiv are a revolutionary co-operative of wine-growers, who support other Black Forest producers like themselves in making their viticulture more sustainable. Their aim is to refocus these vineyards on fungus-resistant grape varieties that remove the need for pesticides and promote biodiviersity and a regional identity in German wine from this region in the Kaiserstuhl hills.
Piwi collect the grapes and then act as a winery, processing these pooled grapes with minimal intervention into fabulously fair sparkling wine. Viva la revolution!
