Beloya, Ethiopia - Wood St. Coffee
Ethiopian season is here and with it is this sweet and floral expression of the origin. Wood St are kicking off their selection by returning to Beloya Washing Station for a third year.
Beloya sits in the Kochere district of the Gedeo Zone and is famed for producing coffees with a classic Ethiopian flavour profile and intense sweetness. Smallholder farmers from the surrounding hills bring their cherry to be processed at Beloya’s growing washing station. For their washed lots coffees are pulped and fermented for 36-48 hours. The coffee is then washed with clean water from the local river then soaked in fresh water and dried for 18 days.
Lots of stone fruit bringing the flavour in this one, with big syrupy tinned peach tasting notes translating well on espresso and matched by a delicate chamomile finish that’s perfect for a super clean filter brew.
Specialty coffee roasters Wood St started life as a coffee stall in Walthamstow’s Wood Street Indoor Market and slowly evolved into a permanent neighbourhood fixture, bringing REALLY GOOD COFFEE to their corner of East London.

In 2022, Clare and Gareth Reid handed over the reins of the cafe and honed in on their roasting business, moving into a large unit in Saffron Walden, Essex to meet the growing demand for their REALLY GOOD COFFEE across the hospitality sector.
It’s in high demand for a reason: responsibly sourced, democratised coffee, carefully roasted with the core belief that anyone can brew great coffee if given the tools, knowledge and training.
