Karimikui, Kenya

Karimikui, Kenya - Norma

A classic, crisp washed Kenyan coffee with all the typical bright blackcurrant acidity and jammy body. This one from Norma has been sourced from Karimikui, a highly regarded factory in Kiringaya run by Rung'eto Farmer Cooperative Society.

Karimikui is one of three stations that make up Rung’eto FCS and receives coffee from over 2500 farmers near Mount Kenya. After intake, the Cherry Clerk oversees an initial sorting to ensure only the densest ripe cherries go through the fully washed processing. The selected cherries undergo 12-24 hours of fermentation, after which they’re washed and soaked to remove all mucilage, guaranteeing a coffee with plenty of the clarity we know and love in Kenyan coffees.

We find that Kenyan coffees brew brilliantly with an Aeropress to get the perfect balance of mouth-coating fruity flavour.

Norma is a small contemporary coffee roastery in Devon working with underrepresented growers to produce a more ‘analogue’ side of coffee. Authentic, small supply chains, organic where possible, in touch with nature both on producer farms and in their own surroundings.

After more than a decade working for some of the best roasters in the country, Lauren and Joe left their past coffee lives on industrial estates for (literal) greener pastures,  settling into their new roastery based in a barn on the edge of Dartmoor.
