La Morena is Girls Who Grind’s latest coffee challenging the industry’s gender inequality. These Guatemalan coffee beans are sourced through the Volcafe Way program which helps women in Huehuetenango and Baja Verapaz build independence, skills and a sustainable income. In some areas, up to 70% of labour in coffee production is done by women. However, women have systemically lower access to resources including land and training resulting in a measurable gap in income. By participating in this programme, the producers have improved their quality, yield and the future of female coffee farmers in Guatemala.
