Taferi Kela, Ethiopia - Curve Coffee
We’ve been lucky enough to try a whole bunch from Ethiopian coffee company Bette Buna’s Megadu site, but this roast from Curve is the first we’ve got our hands on from their processing facility in Taferi Kela village, Sidamo. For now, Bette Buna rent their wet mill and can only process washed coffee in small volumes but hope to open their own mill in the area in the next year.
The cherries for this washed lot are sourced from smallholder farmers around the village who receive training and agricultural support from the Bette Buna team. In these eastern reaches of the Sidamo region near the Gedeo mountains, the coffee offers something a little different to the classic local flavour profile; less florals and citrus, more silky sweet apricot.
Curve Coffee Roasters are a values-driven roastery based in sunny Margate, Kent, founded in the back of a café in 2016 by passionate coffee professionals Tereza and Jon.
Curve know that the coffee they roast has the potential to make big differences to people’s livelihood and create better balance in the coffee industry. As a result, Curve’s focus is on seasonal, high quality coffees that are better not only for coffee drinkers but for the supply chain and the planet too.
