about
Baho, Rwanda - Coborn Coffee
London micro-roastery Coborn focus on sourcing coffee beans with unique flavour profiles from women owned farms and majority women co-operatives. This Rwandan coffee gives a fruity hit of raspberry, citrus and kiwi that would make for a beautiful Chemex brew, with plenty of sweetness to back it up.
Baho is the work of the single mothers who make up Baho Coffee Company’s Ikizere women’s group. This solidarity group plays an important role in helping these heavily stigmatised women gain skills and an independent income in Rwanda’s patriarchal society.
For this lot, the handpicked coffee cherries of these 60 farmers were delivered to Fugi washing station in Nyaruguru to undergo anaerobic processing. The cherries are sealed in barrels for up to 100 hours fermentation and then moved to raised beds for drying. The drying period is intense and meticulous, taking 50 days on average to achieve the optimum moisture content before they are ready for grading and export.
London based micro-roastery Coborn Coffee have a loyal following of supporters who have the same respect for both their high quality coffee and responsible sourcing and roasting. Justin and Kenny founded Coborn with the aim of making unique and great tasting coffees affordable to their local communities. In the two years since their inception, they’ve managed all of this while sourcing only from female majority owned farms and co-ops in developing economies.
We got chatting to these guys at London Coffee Festival and couldn’t get enough of their fun-filled brews or ambitious ideas for the coffee industry so we’re thrilled to have them on drop.
