One of the joys of coffee seasonality is seeing great lots return year after year. These new coffee beans from Carter come from the ever-popular Lalesa processing station in Ethiopia’s Gedeb region.

Lalesa is run by Ephtah, a community focused exporter founded by Wubit Bekele that works to promote the role of women within coffee in Ethiopia while significantly improving their lives (and delivering quality coffee too).

When Ephtah purchased their own station Lalesa in 2023, they took a specific interest in promoting women as the drivers of social and economic change in order to close the gap in power, skills and finance. They have also made a big impact on the types of coffee that the women they work with can produce, and therefore the markets they can reach.

This anaerobic natural process lot gives a major fruit intensity that we don’t normally find in Ethiopian coffee, with a nostalgic burst of ripe blackcurrant and haribo sweets.
