Luz Ángela Rojas is another rising star in Colombian specialty coffee. After growing up on her family farm in Huila, Luz Ángela pursued a career in healthcare but returned to her coffee roots; determined to redefine the role expected of women in coffee.

Her project on her family farm Finca Chorro Alto is all about growing quality coffee full of variety through skilled agronomy rather than producing coffee that’s driven by the complex, experimental and often expensive processing that gets the headlines. We tried a bag from ALL CAPS last time around and we were as much a fan of the varietal forward coffees Luz Ángela produces as they are.

Chiroso, a varietal that came to Colombia as an Ethiopian landrace, is known for its floral and tropical character as well as its distinct elongated cherries. With her double anaerobic process, this flavour shines through as black cherry, mango and lychee flavour- perfect for a juicy pourover and working surprisingly well in milk espresso drinks.
