The Orange Point - Artisans Vignerons de Naoussa
An easy drinking, extremely clean natural orange wine from Chronis Ververis, a member of Artisans Vignerons de Naoussa, and his vineyard in Amyndeon, Macedonia. This co-operative of growers have exposed us to some of the finest sustainably grown Greek varieties with their Skyphos label, and this 50/50 blend of Assyrtiko and Roditis does it again. In this bottle, the young-vine Assyrtiko provides structured minerality and freshness that is perfectly complimented by the rounded orchard fruit flavour and light spice of the old-vine Roditis.
The two grapes are co-fermented in stainless steel tanks, with the pink-skinned Roditis providing all the colour during a 20+ day skin-contact fermentation. After 10 months rest on fine lees, the wine is lightly fined for an ultra clear glass using vegan-friendly techniques before bottling.
Artisans Vignerons de Naoussa is a union of growers based in the northern Greek region of Macedonia. Their focus is on sustainable viticulture, low-intervention making and especially on growing and bottling the Xinomavro native to the hills of Naoussa with these philosophies in mind.
Their “Skyphos” range - that includes a bright and fruity example of Xinomavro - is brilliantly successful at highlighting the terroir of this unique region, that is marked by hot summers, cool breezes and a diverse landscape.
