about
Rwanda Sholi - Hundred House Coffee
Aba Sholi’s Co-operative has had a major impact on Cyeza, in the Muhanga district of central Rwanda, and this coffee’s sweet butterscotch, cherry and apple flavour makes a big impact in the cup.
This fully washed lot, roasted by Hundred House, is sourced from smallholder farmers in Sholi’s Kundwa Women Coffee group. The co-op was founded in 2008 as part of an effort to invigorate the local economy and showcase the potential of Rwanda’s specialty arabica coffee. 15 years on and they’ve achieved their aims by stimulating jobs and education in the area- especially for women- and winning Rwanda’s Cup of Excellence award.
The development of the co-op has afforded them their own central washing station Abateraninkunga- a Kinyarwanda word for mutual assistance- that resolves many of the logistical challenges of harvesting and transportation for smallholders in this beautiful but incredibly mountainous region.
This bag has warm and rich fruity flavours and plenty of body, versatile enough for both filter and espresso brewing.
Hundred House Coffee have been roasting in the Shropshire hills since 2017. From their small rural home near the Welsh border, they’ve opened a dialogue with rural farming communities all over the world to source the best coffee as ethically as possible. Co-founders Matthew Wade and Anabelle De Gersigny focus on careful small batch roasting backed by decades of coffee experience. The team at Hundred House’s passion for culture means their coffee also supports the creative community through outreach and collaboration.
