Wubit Bekele, Ethiopia - Girls Who Grind

This coffee from Ethiopia is another brilliamnt showcase of Girls Who Grind’s mission in the industry. Wubit Bekele is the founder of Ephtah coffee, a community focused Ethiopian coffee producer and exporter who work to further the role of women within coffee in Ethiopia. Wubit recognised that there is a major gap between the number of women in low-paid seasonal work and those in positions of power on washing stations and farms, so has built her business around promoting women as the drivers of social and economic change.

Alongside processing coffee at their own washing station in Gedeb, Ephtah source and export coffee from women farmers in Ethiopia’s most famed coffee regions, building strong relationships with contributing farmers.

Like all of Ephtah's coffee this one was cupped by Wubit, who is a certified Q Grader, as part of her company's deep commitment to quality. This lot is a natural process Yirgacheffe coffee, roasted very lightly to preserve the sweet strawberry and delicate hibiscus tea flavours.

Girls Who Grind Coffee is a female founded specialty coffee roastery based in Wiltshire.

New York born Casey founded GWGC in 2017 with co-founder Fi with an aim to make space in the specialty coffee world, seeing room for change in a traditionally patriarchal industry.

As part of their strive for equality and representation in the coffee industry, GWGC source all of their coffee from women producers to celebrate their massive contribution to the industry. The conscious choice they have made is all about sharing these women’s stories too, so that their customers know exactly who they’re supporting.
