Girls Who Grind have selected this washed Mexican coffee for its clean and sweet flavour with lots of blackberry acidity undercutting a crowd-pleasing chocolatey body. These beans are also right in line with Girls Who Grind's mission to source coffee from from change-making women producers, representing a brilliant feminist initiative in Chiapas. 

The Mercedes Olivera Feminist Collective (COFEMO) has been dedicated to closing gender gaps in Chiapas for over three decades, including in severely marginalised coffee producing Tzotzil communities. The majority of these women are not landowners, so are left out of decision-making with regards to the land that they farm. This proves a major difficulty when faced with their aging plants and the wider environmental challenges that the Mexican coffee industry is facing.

COFEMO’s project Sat Kajpel Antsetik , ‘Coffee with a Woman’s face’, is a cooperative of 58 indigenous women in the Chiapas highlands who are supported with their coffee quality and with access to international specialty markets in order to empower their production.
