Skyphos Assyrtiko - Artisans Vignerons de Naoussa
A white wine full of salinity, the Assyrtiko grape is native to Santorini and now grown widely across Greece, including in the sandy soils of Naoussa where the Artisans Vignerons de Naoussa cooperative of growers are based.
Made with certified organic grapes fermented in steel for two weeks with indigenous yeasts, this wine, part of the cooperative's ‘Skyphos’ label, features a lemon acidity that perfectly compliments the dry minerality of the bottle. A touch of white peach sweetness and elderflower, balanced by a light gunpowder smoke wrap up a lovely unfiltered bottle that’s a perfect match for seafood.
Artisans Vignerons de Naoussa is a union of growers based in the northern Greek region of Macedonia. Their focus is on sustainable viticulture, low-intervention making and especially on growing and bottling the Xinomavro native to the hills of Naoussa with these philosophies in mind.
Their “Skyphos” range - that includes a bright and fruity example of Xinomavro- is brilliantly successful at highlighting the terroir of this unique region, that is marked by hot summers, cool breezes and a diverse landscape.
