Batard Langelier Première Gorgée - Domaine Batard Langelier

A lively and zingy young Muscadet with a citrus aroma, bright gooseberry acidity and noticeable minerality. Muscadet can only be made using the Melon de Bourgogne grape variety, and these particular grapes are organic grown on Domaine Batard Langelier in France's Loire Valley.

Hand-havested Melon de Bourgogne are lightly pressed and then fermented in stainless steel tanks. Two months of ageing in ceramic ‘jarre de gres’ follows, with spontaneous and malolactic fermentation. This wine was bottled without fining and without the addition of sulphur.

Absolutely not to be confused with aromatic Muscats, this bottle is ultra clean with lots of oceanic influence and major mouth-watering minerality, offering a crisp dry finish for lovers of cool-climate white wines.

Domaine Batard Langelier spans 20 hectares in  the Muscadet Sèvre et Maine appellation just 50km from the Atlantic coast and is almost entirely planted with Melon de Bourgogne- the grape used in making Muscadet.

Domaine Batard Langelier spans 20 hectares in  the Muscadet Sèvre et Maine appellation just 50km from the Atlantic coast and is almost entirely planted with Melon de Bourgogne- the grape used in making Muscadet. The ethos of the family estate has been driven by third-generation winemaker Jérémie and his father Pascal. In the 1990s, Pascal rebelled against market-driven standardisation and its threats to biodiversity in favour of terroir-driven viniculture and sustainable viticulture. Jérémie continued this mission when he took over in 2009 and has brought in a new era of certified organic agriculture that makes for incredibly expressive wines. The Domaine's single-vineyard cuvées show off the oceanic influence and highly varied soils of the estate, as well as the great potential of Melon de Bourgogne; a grape that’s become emblematic of Muscadet Sèvre et Maine.
