Merly Leon, Peru - Outpost Coffee

We think our roasters may have caught on that we’ll buy anything with a cola tasting note. This one from Nottingham’s Outpost is an outstanding microlot from Peruvian coffee farmer Merly Leon’s farm, La Palta. Merly and her family farm 12 hectares of coffee growing land in Santa Teresa de Callayuc, Cajamarca. The extreme altitudes (up to 2250MASL!) and microclimates of the region means she can produce some very high quality specialty lots like washed Caturra lot.

Merly is also supported by local cooperative Aromas del Valle who have recently been providing fermentation training to help add complexity and value to their members’ coffee. This coffee was fermented for 48 hours, pulped, fermented for another 42 hours, then washed and dried for around 17-18 days. The resulting cup is bright, fruity and sweet, with flavours of apricot and raspberry within that cola-sweet body.
