Valle Alto, Peru - 17 Grams
A special coffee from a special group of farmers. Cooperativa Agraria Cafetalera Valle Alto began as a social project by a group of university students, many of whom came from coffee farming families in the Amazonas region of Peru.
They were concerned about their aging communities and believe that young producers are key to the resilience of the coffee industry in Peru and to the development of rural farming towns. The co-operative now trains and supports these young farmers who are bringing energy and innovation to the future of coffee farming.
The programme has resulted in some incredible coffees, including this washed Geisha lot that’s been roasted by 17 Grams. Juicy tangerine, lemon and soft jasmine florals- amazing value for a cup with so much clarity.
17 Grams have built up a reputation for providing friendly specialty coffee advice in their two Brighton cafés since 2016.
In 2022, they decided to build all that experience into roasting, nabbing a modded-up refurbished roaster from our friends at Crankhouse to set up at a new roastery location.
Since then they’ve been roasting up a storm, focusing on vibrant coffees and perfecting their espresso, filter and omni roast profiles.
