Labadens Escartefigues Blanc - Labadens
Labadens’ Escartefigue range are modern and fresh Vins de France, made from grape varieties not included in the Rhône appellation areas.
This white wine is made up of 50% Sauvignon Blanc 45% Viognier and 5% Muscat from Suze-La-Rousse, harvested before fully ripe to protect varietal characteristics and keep a lower ABV. These grapes were gently direct pressed, cold settled for clarity then fermented at low temps in stainless steel vats to maintain that freshness.
The 2023 vintage is ultra aromatic and shows how skilled Tom and Fanny are at varietal selection and blending. The Sauvignon Blanc brings citrus, grass and tropical fruit notes while the Viognier part adds roundness and ripe stone fruit flavour. That 5% Muscat still shines through, bringing floral complexity to the final bottle.
French winery Labadens make organic wines across the Rhône Valley. The label, which translates to companion or classmate, is a project based in the friendship of Thomas Oui and Fanny Breuil who met in Toulouse at Agronomy school. After meeting and working with growers across Ventoux and Vacqueyras, they decided to start crafting wines that would showcase the quality of the clay-limestone soils, continental climate, and fruit of this region without the use of chemicals.
Labadens carefully source and select high quality wines that they feel show off the identity of the Rhône Valley terroir and then blend and age them, always working with producers on a fair-trade market.
Their Escartefigue wines are produced as Vin de France and made from grape varieties not included in the Rhône appellation areas. These modern, fruity and refreshing wines are easy to drink while still offering a great taste of the Rhône.
