Yukro, Ethiopia - 17 Grams

17 Grams’s new Ethiopian coffee comes from Telila Washing Station in the country’s Jimma region. Telila is renowned for its attention to detail — where most Ethiopian washing stations create lots based on the delivery location and process, Telila also separates them based on harvest day, so they can really fine-tune their offering and make sure it’s as high quality as possible.

Telila boss Mike Mamo has made a real effort to innovate in Ethiopian coffee, where tradition and lack of topdown funding often hamper development. His passion for quality control has also allowed (with government approval!) Telila to store their parchment coffee in sealed Ecotact bags.

Like a lot of coffees from Jimma, this washed lot grown by smallholder farmers in the nearby village of Yukro offers a more full and vibrant flavour than coffee from other Ethiopian regions, with oolong tea and orange sorbet tasting notes backed by creamy dulce de leche. Ideal for brewing with an AeroPress or for a really bright espresso.

In 2022, they decided to build all that experience into roasting, nabbing a modded-up refurbished roaster from our friends at Crankhouse to set up at a new roastery location.

Since then they’ve been roasting up a storm, focusing on vibrant coffees and perfecting their espresso, filter and omni roast profiles.
