Jorge Chavez, Peru - Wood St. Coffee
We’ll be gutted when the Peruvian coffee season ends, we’ve been treated to some absolute bangers this year. Here’s another, this time from new drop roaster Wood St. Coffee.
The coffee beans were sourced from the Castro family and neighbouring farms in Jorge Chavez, Cajamarca. Nelida, Ciro and their son Jenry grow coffee on their farm Finca La Jalca in the district of San José de Lourdes. Like many Peruvian producers, the family saw the price potential for specialty coffee from Peru and reached out to exporters Collective Bean for training and support in improving the quality and yield of their coffee beans. Jenry is now trained in quality control and the Castros have established long term partnerships that secure a stable future and continued profitability for the farm.
For this lot, their harvest was combined with that of neighbouring farmers whose coffee all shared a consistent quality and profile. All coffee in this community lot was washed, fermented for up to 72 hours and dried on raised bends beneath tents for up to 20 days. The final cup is caramel sweet with delicate and clean fruit flavours of greengage plum and watermelon that we think would work brilliantly with a Clever Dripper.
Specialty coffee roasters Wood St started life as a coffee stall in Walthamstow’s Wood Street Indoor Market and slowly evolved into a permanent neighbourhood fixture, bringing REALLY GOOD COFFEE to their corner of East London.

In 2022, Clare and Gareth Reid handed over the reins of the cafe and honed in on their roasting business, moving into a large unit in Saffron Walden, Essex to meet the growing demand for their REALLY GOOD COFFEE across the hospitality sector.
It’s in high demand for a reason: responsibly sourced, democratised coffee, carefully roasted with the core belief that anyone can brew great coffee if given the tools, knowledge and training.
