Kinini, Rwanda - Wood St. Coffee
Wood St’s Rwandan coffees are here and it wasn’t an easy task to choose just one. We think we’ve made a pretty good selection with these natural process coffee beans from Kinini Coffee. There’s lots of concentrated berry sweetness alongside dried fruit flavour and a malty body that’s reminding us of malt loaf, really ticking the ‘interesting but comforting’ box that we think is needed at this time of year.
The Kinini project was set up by Jacquie Turner and Malcolm Clear and works with over 630 smallholder farmers in the Rulingo district of Rwanda’s Northern Province. The majority of these producers are female farmers who are widows of the Rwandan genocide. Since 2012, the coffee produced at Kinini Washing Station has directly funded their NGO, building a primary school and health centre and improving local infrastructure.
Donations from importers DR Wakefield have helped build a roasting facility, satellite agronomy technology, and the introduction of natural processing at Kinini.
Specialty coffee roasters Wood St started life as a coffee stall in Walthamstow’s Wood Street Indoor Market and slowly evolved into a permanent neighbourhood fixture, bringing REALLY GOOD COFFEE to their corner of East London.

In 2022, Clare and Gareth Reid handed over the reins of the cafe and honed in on their roasting business, moving into a large unit in Saffron Walden, Essex to meet the growing demand for their REALLY GOOD COFFEE across the hospitality sector.
It’s in high demand for a reason: responsibly sourced, democratised coffee, carefully roasted with the core belief that anyone can brew great coffee if given the tools, knowledge and training.
