Tanzania Blackburn Estate - Dark Woods

We always love to see Tanzanian coffee on our suppliers’ lists so we had to jump on Dark Woods’s newest roast. Syrupy sweet and rich, this coffee gives us notes of stewed plums and rhubarb, mellowed by an acidic grapefruit finish.

This coffee comes from the award-winning Blackburn Estate, where owner Michael Gehrken farms in the volcanic soils of the Nogorongoro Conservation Area near Karatu. 80% of the estate’s diverse landscape is reserved for free wildlife roaming, with this coffee growing in one of the farm's heavily shaded areas under a natural canopy.

Undergoing a fully washed process at the Blackburn Estate’s on site wet-mill, this coffee is pulped and washed using water from a local mountain sprung, before drying on raised African beds.

We think the rich body of this coffee is perfect for brewing with an Aeropress. Grind this one up and take it out for a hike and you can just picture yourself on Mount Kilimanjaro...

Huddersfield based Dark Woods have been roasting coffee in the foothills of the Pennines since 2013. They’ve built up a decade of knowledge and experience in roasting, sourcing and training and now supply cafés and restaurants all over the UK with exceptional specialty coffee.

Across Dark Woods’ coffee range they aim to provide something for every coffee lover's tastes: from light and fruity seasonal single origins to rich and nutty balanced blends, they explore the full range of what coffee can offer us. Their B Corp certification speaks for itself, showing the massive commitment Dark Woods has taken towards lessening their environmental impact and increasing community engagement over the past decade.
