Dark Woods’s producer series has opened our eyes to rare origins and processes- these coffee beans do both!

This Indian coffee comes from the Kalledevarapura Estate in the Bababudangiri Hills- India’s most prominent coffee growing region. Kalledevarapura is owned and managed by 4th generation producer Shankar and his son Shravan, who are really pushing for innovation in Indian coffee and constantly investing in their processing facilities.

Indian coffee is often used by roasters to provide great body and balance in blends like Dark Woods’s own Under Milk Wood, so it’s great to try special micro-lots like this one. This lot underwent yeast inoculation and anaerobic honey processing. Using specific strains of yeast to inoculate coffee during the fermentation process really enhances the aromas of the coffee, creating a unique total drinking experience, and a flavour profile that is highly developed and complex.

This coffee has an almost savoury quality, with a pronounced winey aroma and a long praline and malt body. A truly interesting cup especially when brewed with slow filter methods like the Kalita Wave.
