Sironko, Uganda - Cairngorm Coffee

At Sironko Station at the base of Mount Elgon, Mountain Harvest are on a mission to change how the world views Ugandan coffee. The mill, founded in 2017 by Kenneth Barigye, supports surrounding farming communities by providing processing facilities as well as support for economic and environmental sustainability.

Mountain Harvest also runs an innovation series to produce more experimental lots like this anaerobic honey processed nanolot. The cherries are first sealed in plastic barrels where they ferment anaerobically for 48 hours. They are then partially de-pulped and spread out to sun-dry on racks.

Cairngorm have got us pretty excited about this one, we can’t wait to try it on our Chemex. Ultra juicy, bursting with blackcurrant, sweet cherry bakewell and floral honey tasting notes.

Cairngorm Coffee have been shaking up the scene in Scotland and beyond since 2014 and their 3 cafés are always top of our list for Edinburgh coffee recs.

Founder Robi’s lifelong passion for better-brewed coffee is at the heart of everything Cairngorm do, and over the past 9 years he’s built up a team and community of equally passionate people. A commitment to sustainable sourcing and a team of meticulous roasters has ensured that this vision has come to life, meaning you get the very best out of the sweet and juicy coffee beans they favour.
