Rung'eto Kii AB, Kenya - Round Hill Roastery
This incredible lot is everything we’re after in a Kenyan coffee. Big Vimto fruity depth, alongside blood orange acidity and elderflower complexity.
The Round Hill team have sourced this one from Kii washing station, located in Kiringaya in the foothills of Mount Kenya. Kii is one of three stations- or factories- that make up Rung’eto Farmers Cooperative Society, a regular trade partner of Round Hill, and buys and processes the coffee of over 800 co-op members.
Round Hill keep going back for more because Kii specialise in the Kenyan Washed or Kenyan Double-Soak process. This meticulous processing method involves the densest coffee cherries being stored in a tank where they begin fermenting, before they are depulped, washed and fermented again in clean water and dried slowly and thoroughly for up to 20 days.
The result of this labour of love is a cup packed with intense fruit flavour that is deep, complex and absolutely delicious.
Somerset has a thriving speciality coffee scene and Round Hill Roastery, based just outside Bath, are a key player. This coffee roaster focuses on single farm and single estate coffee allows them to create strong relationships direct with suppliers and bring truly unique coffee and complete transparency to their customers.
Round Hill roast their coffee specifically for either filter or espresso so they can bring out the best in their beans and their bright bags make things simple: blue for filter, pink for espresso.
