El Jaguar, Nicaragua - Missing Bean Coffee Roasters
El Jaguar is much more than just a coffee estate. This Nicaraguan farm is recognised as a private wildlife reserve and Global Important Bird Area, playing host to 375 bird species and a dedicated research centre for their study.
Owners and conservationists Georges Duriaux and Liliana Chavarría began growing coffee on the farm in 1992, seeking a crop that grows well in their cloud-forest ecosystems. Their coffee directly benefits from these conservation efforts too, with shade-grown organic coffee providing a great habitat for the birds.
Missing Bean have worked with El Jaguar since 2023 as one of their direct trade partners. These latest washed coffee beans are brilliantly versatile, with sweet and juicy tasting notes of apricot, blueberry and vanilla providing great flavour across espresso, filter and french press.
Now with 6 cafés across the county, Oxford’s first independently owned coffee shop Missing Bean have been flying the flag for specialty coffee across Oxfordshire since Ori and Vicky opened their first site in 2009. Their close-knit team have found their way into coffee from all walks of life, but all share a passion for sustainably sourced coffee which they hand roast at their East Oxford roastery.
Their coffee selection spans origins across the globe, sourcing with a special focus on developing direct trade relationships with producers.
