RAB Pet Nat Rouge - Vignoble du RAB
This sparkling red Pet Nat from Vignoble du RAB in France’s Loire Valley is ultra dry and fresh, with a very pleasant spritz.
This vegan Pet Nat wine is made from 100% Cabernet Franc grown on gravel and sandy soil, that the Cab seems to love! A relatively new grower, only farming on these vines since 2020, Nicholas Gonnin’s first harvest in 2021 was a tough one. His 2022 vintages, like this one, have proved a complete turnaround- with brilliant yields giving plenty of room for experimentation and really lively wines like this.
This bottle reminds us of one of our all time faves from Ancre Hill, so we’re looking forward to a summer of choosing between these two!
Vignoble du RAB is the fruit of Nicholas Gonnin and his family’s 5 hectares in the Loire Valley. Founded in 2020, RAB’s name says a lot about its winemaking ethos: Raisin À Boire- grapes for drinking. A newbie on the wine scene and a former train driver, Gonnin trained just outside Paris before seeking a vineyard that was already certified organic.
His wines, harvested from 60 year old vines in Chinon, are about the pure joy of drinking and creating wine, and Gonnin doesn’t think any of this should come at the expense of the environment.
Farming organically and biodynamically, and crafting his bottles with little intervention but plenty of experimentation, RAB’s natural wines are full of the life of the land, with a real sense of terroir and the maker’s appreciation for it.
