Rouge Petard, Aramon - Francois Ducrot
Delicious wine delicious value, this bright red wine makes use of one of the Languedoc’s most underutilised indigenous grapes. At Francois Ducrot’s vineyard in Villevielle, Aramon is farmed organically on old vines on silt and limestone soils which provide great freshness to the bottle making it light enough for chilling.
100% Aramon is crushed, destemmed and macerated before ageing in steel vats for 9 months and bottling without added sulphites. The result is a well balanced and expressive red wine with grippy tannins and pure red fruit flavour.
Languedoc based Francois Ducrot's product prioritises good wine from good grapes. Francois recognises that organic viniculture can be restrictive, but he process of gradually letting the vines become autonomous and stimulated by nature is especially necessary in this period of unprecedented climate change.
His wines focus on indigenous or forgotten varieties like Aramon, and creative innovations that push the boundaries of stylistic expectations.
