about
Boza Sisters Maragogype, El Salvador - Girls Who Grind
Big, bold and beautiful coffee beans from the Boza Sisters in El Salvador.
These naturally processed coffee beans are Maragogype (or Maragogipe), a varietal discovered near the Brazilian city of the same name. Sometimes called Elephant beans, this varietal is noted for its enormous leaves and large beans. Finca San Antonio Amatepec, there are just a few Maragogype plants, so this bag from Girls who Grind represents a super special nano-lot.
The farm is headed up by Karla Boza, who took over the direct trade of her family’s coffee. Previously, her father sold cherries to a mill and didn't know what happened to the coffee beyond that, being told it was poor quality and needed to be blended.
They couldn’t have been more wrong! These big beans provide a big dose of flavour, packed with chocolatey, vanilla flavour, and some light pineapple notes. We cracked straight into this one on the office batch brew and it got us through a full morning of lifting boxes.
Girls Who Grind Coffee is a female founded specialty coffee roastery based in Wiltshire.
New York born Casey founded GWGC in 2017 with co-founder Fi with an aim to make space in the specialty coffee world, seeing room for change in a traditionally patriarchal industry.
As part of their strive for equality and representation in the coffee industry, GWGC source all of their coffee from women producers to celebrate their massive contribution to the industry. The conscious choice they have made is all about sharing these women’s stories too, so that their customers know exactly who they’re supporting.
