about
Marani Kenya - 17 Grams
From Marani Village in Kenya, to 17 Grams roastery in Brighton, by way of Funky Town. This special release has all the blackberry and delicate florals we’ve come to expect from Kenyan coffee but with a bit of extra juicy zest. If you’re up for an extra vibrant espresso this coffee was omni-roasted, but we’ll be sipping this one on V60.
These anaerobic natural processed coffee beans have been sourced from Lot 20, a collective of coffee producers from Kericho and Bomet in the Rift Valley who are big on pushing the boundaries of experimental processed Kenyan coffees by sourcing exceptional micro lots. At their processing facility, they mix tradition with cutting edge fermentation techniques to get the best flavour profiles possible.
The team behind Lot 20 believe that advancement in specialty coffee leads to positive change for farmers, with fair pay at every step of the chain one of their founding principles, and transparency- a major challenge in the Kenyan coffee market- another.
In 2022, they decided to build all that experience into roasting, nabbing a modded-up refurbished roaster from our friends at Crankhouse to set up at a new roastery location.
Since then they’ve been roasting up a storm, focusing on vibrant coffees and perfecting their espresso, filter and omni roast profiles.
