El Mozo
Rioja, Spain
Gorka Mauleón and Itxaso Compañon both come from wine-growing families in Rioja and were determined to not let the tradition of artisan Rioja wine making die at the hands of industrial producers. With Itxaso's family on the brink of selling up, the couple stepped in and decided to vinify their own grapes and bottle under their own label, El Mozo.
El Mozo cultivate 9 hectares of vineyards across 18 small plots in Lanciego, with sustainable and organic viticulture key in maintaining these ancestral vines. Their portfolio includes fruit forward carbonic maceration wines, classic oak aged Riojas, and field blends like Cosmonauta Viaje en el Tiempo, all of which respect the traditions and history of this revered region.
