Because of little intervention in the coffee that grows in the country's natural shaded mountain regions, coffee from Timor Leste is organic by default, and it is possibly the only country in the world that produces exclusively organically grown coffee.

Coffee is one of Timor Leste's primary industries and exports, and has been cultivated on the eastern half of the South Asian island of Timor since its Portuguese occupation. Unique to Timor is the Timor Hybrid variety of coffee that has naturally evolved on the island. This is a unique variety of coffee which benefits from the taste of Arabica combined with Robusta's strength against common coffee plant diseases and results in smooth and earthy medium bodied coffees that often have notes of brown sugar.
